The amazing men, women and children behind the Grevy’s Zebra Trust became known in 2016 as the Zebra People.
The Zebra People project is a touring art experience from a community who are bearing witness to the heroic last stand of one of Africa’s most endangered icons, the Grevy’s zebra. This is an artistic collaboration with Kenyan professional photographer Mia Collis, and IMAX film-maker David Douglas.
In February 2016, the Zebra People initiative was launched at an exhibition at the National Museum of Kenya, with guest of honour Richard Leakey, and proudly attended by the whole team of Grevy’s Zebra Warriors.
The photographs featured in the exhibition were taken not only by Mia, but also by the Samburu and Rendille Grevy’s Zebra Warriors, during their day to day activities. It affords the public a glimpse into the life of the Warriors and the conditions they work in, and raises the profile of Grevy’s zebra both locally and globally.
